The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the crash involved an Isuzu trooper vehicle and an articulated lorry. The three victims, who had been travelling in the Isuzu trooper, died at the scene.Another woman and child, who were also in the vehicle and are said to be members of the Travelling community, were taken to hospital with the lorry driver. Their condition is said to be stable.
Local SDLP councillor Mr Tommy Kavanagh described the stretch of road as a death-trap. "It's notorious," he said. "How many more people will have to be killed before something is done about it?" The road was closed to traffic afterwards and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
