Three people lost their lives in separate road accidents in the Republic over the weekend. Two of the accidents occurred yesterday, and one on Saturday night. Regina Daly reports.
Ms Rosemary Kavanagh (49), of Pineridge, Wexford, died after her car was involved in a head-on collision with another car in Co Galway. The accident happened at Ballinamuckla, Loughrea, just before midnight on Saturday.
She was rushed by ambulance to University College Hospital Galway, but died en route. A passenger in the car - a man in his 20s - was treated for minor injuries. Gardaí at Gort are investigating the accident.
The second fatal accident happened in Kilkenny at about 10.30 a.m. yesterday. Mr John Healy of Two-Mile-Borris, Co Tipperary, died after his car collided with another car at Colleshall about five miles from the city, on the Freshford to Kilkenny Road. He was rushed to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, but was pronounced dead on arrival
In Carlow yesterday, a 46- year-old man lost his life after the motorcycle he was riding was in collision with a car at Downings, Tullow, at about 2.30 p.m.
