Three people died in separate road traffic accidents at the weekend.A pedestrian in his mid-20s was killed yesterday after he was struck by a car at 6.20 a.m. on the main road from Castledermot to Carlow at Barnhill.
The dead man has been identified but his name has not been released by gardaí until relatives have been informed.
He was believed to have been 23-years-old and from Dublin.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have been on the road before the accident, or who witnessed it, to contact the gardaí at Carlow on (059) 913 1505 or on the Garda confidential telephone line on 1-800-666-111.
On Saturday morning, a 16- year-old front-seat passenger died when the car in which she was a passenger collided with a car which was parked at Old Newpark, Golf Links Road, Kilkenny at 8.30 a.m.
The male driver of the car was treated for minor injuries at St Luke's Hospital and was discharged a short time later.
Gardaí in Kilkenny are investigating the accident.
Elsewhere, in Co Galway, a 20-year-old man was killed on Saturday at 1.30 a.m.
The accident happened when the car he was driving went out of control and struck a ditch.
The accident happened at Ardskeabeg, Corofin, Tuam, Co Galway.
The driver died later at University College Hospital.
The three deaths over the weekend has brought the number of fatalities caused by road accidents to 315 for the first 11 months of this year.
Last year, 379 people died on the roads.
