Three people who are understood to have been protesting against the US president's visit to Ireland this evening have been arrested in the Shannon Estuary.
The two men and one woman were arrested while engaged in an anti-war protest in an inflatable boat on the estuary, it is understood. They were intercepted by a naval patrol unit and then arrested.
A Garda spokesman said no further information was available. It is not yet clear whether the three have been charged with any offence or where they are being held.
It is understood one of those arrested is the former army officer Mr Edward Horgan, of the Mid-Western Alliance Against Military Aggression.
