Gardaí were yesterday searching for firearms used in a double shooting in Co Limerick on Monday evening as they continued to question three suspects about the attack, which injured two men, one of them seriously.
The three suspects aged 19, 26 and 47 were arrested shortly after gunmen opened fire at a house in the Lisheen Park estate, Patrickswell, about eight kilometres (five miles) outside Limerick city. A number of men wearing balaclavas fired up to four shotgun rounds at two men in the house, hitting one in the chest and the other in the arm before they fled the scene on foot in the direction of Ballybrown.
The man hit in the chest suffered a serious gunshot wound and was said to be in a comfortable condition yesterday, while the other gunshot victim, a relative, escaped largely unscathed.
In a separate incident in the city, gardaí are continuing an investigation into how a 24-year-old woman suffered a serious gunshot wound to the hand in a flat at Cornmarket Villas in the early hours of Monday morning.
