TWO WOMEN and a man were remanded in custody at a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Derry at the weekend following discovery of a cannabis factory.

Just over 600 cannabis plants with an estimated value above £250,000 (€277,000) were found by police in a house at Templeard in the Culmore area on Friday.

The women, Mie Lin Yun (40), from Spencer Road in Derry and Im Peng Chen (50), of no fixed abode, appeared along with Wu Jin Wu from Templeard jointly charged with cultivating the plants and possessing and possessing with intent to supply cannabis on dates between May 2008 and last Friday. The three were described as illegal immigrants from China. There was no application for bail, and all were remanded in custody to reappear on January 29th.
