Three remanded on drugs charge

Three men charged in relation to a drug seizure in Dublin on Tuesday were remanded in custody to appear again next week.

Alan Boggans (34) of Keelogue House, Peamount Road, Newcastle Co Dublin and Stephen Grant (36) of Neilstown Ave, Clodalkin were both charged with possession of cannabis while Bernard Fitzsimons (28) of 8 Glenshane Grove, Tallaght was charged with being in possession of cocaine.

All three were remanded in custody to appear before the Dublin District Court in Blanchardstown on September 11th next.

On Tuesday gardaí seized a haul of cannabis resin valued at over €2 million, found in a van in the Greenogue business park, Rathcoole, Co Dublin.

Gardaí had the area under surveillance as three members of a west Dublin drugs gang were about to transfer the drugs from the van into two cars.

The men had parked at a truckers’ facility in the business park to carry out the handover at 9pm on Monday.

Following the cannabis seizure, gardaí carried out four searches at residential addresses linked to the men.

They found more than €100,000 in cash, €170,000 worth of cigarettes and assorted stolen property.

The two cars and van at the drug seizure scene have been taken for forensic examination.

The operation involved local units at Ronanstown and Clondalkin Garda stations, the Garda National Drugs Unit and specialist armed Garda units.
