Members of one of Limerick’s criminal gangs armed themselves with an Italian-made semi-automatic pump-action shotgun because they feared an attack by a rival faction was imminent, a court has heard. The evidence was given at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday where a 21-year-old man pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a Lu-Mar 12 gauge sawn-off shotgun and three shotgun cartridges at Greenhills Road, Garryowen, Limerick, on October 5th, 2008.

Christopher Mulqueen, of St Munchin’s Court, St Mary’s Park, was described in court as a low-ranking member of the Keane/Collopy gang. Judge Carroll Moran imposed a three-year sentence, which he suspended for three years.
