Britain: Tickets for the final flights on Concorde next month are selling quickly. When 450 tickets went on sale in Britain at 9 a.m. yesterday, a third of them were snapped up within 90 minutes
Flights between London and New York were quickly sold out for both October 22nd and 23rd and only a few tickets were left unsold for October 18th-21st, British Airways said. "There has been huge demand and the few seats available are mainly for flights originating in New York," an airline spokeswoman said.
BA plans to carry up to 2,000 passengers between October 18th and 24th in a bid to set a new seven-day record before Concorde's 27-year passenger-carrying history comes to an end.
Some 20 flights will cross the Atlantic during its last week before the final commercial flight, BA001 to New York's John F Kennedy airport, takes off from Heathrow on Thursday, October 23rd.
A final VIP flight will leave New York for London on October 24th.
BA's marketing director, Mr Martin George, said more than 1,000 competition winners and special guests would also be enjoying Concorde's last stand on her farewell tour of the UK.
He added: "People have been calling us all summer about buying a seat for the final week and we are delighted that we can now begin offering them to those people on our waiting lists and several hundred other customers."
The UK tour will see Concorde visit Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh before culminating in a series of three supersonic flights from New York, Edinburgh and round the Bay of Biscay on her final day.
Return travel between London and New York costs £4,350 (€6,262) for flying one-way on Concorde and returning on a regular BA flight, and up to £8,292 for flying both ways on Concorde. Customers can book by calling British Airways on 0870 850 9850 or by visiting www.ba.com. - (PA)
