GAA:Defending champions Kerry will open next weekend's All-Ireland quarter-finals against Down, a team they have never beaten in championship, before Dublin take on Tyrone at Croke Park later the same day.

Cork and Roscommon will get Sunday’s double-header at GAA headquarters underway, again with a 2pm throw-in. Leinster rivals Meath and Kildare meet in the later game.

The GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee confirmed the dates and times this afternoon, with Saturday’s double-header sure to generate massive interest in the capital.

Although they will be heavy favourites, despite the absence of the suspended Paul Galvin and Tomas O’Se, Kerry have failed to get the better of the Mourne County over the years.

Down, who overcame Kingdom in the All-Ireland semi-finals when the sides last met in 1991, have steadily improved throughout the qualifiers and will go into the contest with nothing to lose.

Tyrone’s meeting with Dublin at 4pm is arguably the tie of the round. Pat Gilroy's side have overcome Tipperary, Armagh and Louth since being knocked out of Leinster but Tyrone will represent a much stiffer challenge.

Connacht champions Roscommon first trip to Croke Park since 1991 will see them take on beaten Munster finalists Cork. The Rebels needed extra-time to see off Limerick over the weekend but will go into the tie as favourites.

And Meath round of the weekend’s action with their tie against a resurgent Kildare.
