Betun - Guido Bareto was near tears as he crossed a small bridge and walked past the last of the Indonesian soldiers and back into his shattered homeland of East Timor, watched by foreign soldiers overseeing the territory.
Mr Bareto, a 19-year-old student, and more than 1,000 other refugees were among the first mass repatriation from squalid camps around Betun in neighbouring Indonesian West Timor. "I'm very happy because if I stay in West Timor there is no food, and West Timor is not my homeland," Mr Bareto said.
