The most surprising aspect of this game is that it took so long for somebody to come up with the idea. The Titanic is an intriguing subject but with the huge success of the multiple Oscar-winning film, this game seems to have hit the shelves at just the right time.
Besides the game itself you have the opportunity to take a tour of the ship without the constraints of gameplay. The characters you meet act as tour guides and provide you with information and facts to familiarise yourself with the surroundings. In the game you play the role of a British secret agent. A failed one at that, haunted by the events that destroyed your career onboard the Titanic 30 years ago. It is 1942 in London and the Blitzkrieg rages. A violent catalyst hurtles you back in time to April 14th 1912. You now have a second chance to make good your name and perhaps change history by preventing the first World War, the Russian Revolution or the second World War.
If you haven't guessed yet, Titanic Adventure Out Of Time is a point and click adventure. You use the directional keys to move around the ship (a map enables you to jump from area to area) and the mouse is used to examine and use objects and to talk to the 25 or so characters you meet on board. A nice touch is that when you bump into the same character again they remember meeting you and act accordingly. The characters themselves only move parts of their faces while conversing (they are not in FMV) and whilst this seems a little cheap at first it becomes quite endearing. For Titanic aficionados it goes without saying that this game is a must. For under £20, and for a game that will run on any self-respecting PC, it is certainly going to keep its head well above water.
