GAA SHC/SFC Round-up:Dublin didn't get things all their own way at Croke Park this afternoon but the League Division One champions had enough in the tank to see-off Offaly in their Leinster SHC quarter-final, while All-Ireland champions Tipperary had enough to get past Cork in Semple Stadium.
Anthony Daly’s side looked to be cruising midway through the second period as they opened up an eight point lead. At 1-18 to 1-10 they looked home and dry but scores from Joe Bergin gave Dublin some pause for thought.
In the closing stages Paedar Carton found the Offaly goal to seal the win.
Dublin’s opening goal came from David O’Callaghan’s penalty to give the Dubs the ideal start. However Offaly responded with a Shane Dooley goal as they went into the break trailing 1-08 to 1-09.
Elsewhere Tipperary made it safely into the Munster SHC semi-final where they will take on Clare but they had to weather a Cork comeback as the Rebels threatened to get back into the game in second half.
At one stage Tipp were eight points clear and set for a straightforward win. But this game was never going to go to script and Cork fought back to level the game with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Credit to Tipp for they demonstrated All-Ireland winning form and pushed ahead once more. Even at this early stage it sets down an early marker as the 30,000 crowd enjoyed a high tempo game in Thurles.
Tipp’s early goals came from Lar Corbett and Eoin Kelly, who went into the break 2-11 to 0-10 ahead. Benny Dunne got the winner’s third goal towards the end of the second half.
In the Connacht SFC preliminary round London almost pulled off the upset of the championship, even at this stage, before they were denied by Mayo in extra-time at Ruislip.
London forced James Horan's side into extra-time before Mayo came through 0-19 to 2-10 winners.
Wexford were comfortable 3-16 to 1-11 winners over Antrim at Wexford Park to set up a Leinster SHC semi-final clash with Kilkenny.
There was little to choose between the sides at the break as Wexford led 1-10 to 1-08 after goals from Conor McCann and Jim Berry.
The second half was a different story, however, as Wexford upped the ante and ran out deserved winners. Eanna Martin and David Redmond scored second half goals.
Armagh were forced to finish strongly to deny Monaghan 2-17 to 2-07 in their Ulster SHC quarter-final at Pairc Esler.
Although the scoreline shows a 10-point gap, Monaghan fought back int he second half and reduced the deficit to a single point.
However, Neil Duffy's goal for Armagh proved the catalyst as the Orchard County went through in the end.
