GAA:Eamon O'Shea has been ratified as the new Tipperary senior hurling manager for 2013, succeeding Declan Ryan. The appointment will be a popular one in the Premier County and amongst the panel, who were soundly beaten 4-24 to 1-15 by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-final last month.
The former Kilruane McDonaghs wing forward was part of the coaching ticket for three rewarding seasons under Ryan's (2010) All-Ireland-winning predecessor Liam Sheedy.
"(The) Tipperary county board has ratified the appointment of Eamon O'Shea as senior hurling manager," read a statement this evening. "The other members of the management team will be decided in due course."
The NUIG professor of economics is expected to bring Michael Ryan, whom he worked with under Sheedy, on board, while former defender Eamonn Corcoran may also join his management team.
Conor Counihanis still in the running to take charge of the Cork footballers for a sixth year.
Reports today suggested Counihan has already agreed to take charge for 2013, having been undecided in the weeks since Cork’s All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Donegal.
The Cork county board could possibly seal his reappointment at next Tuesday’s meeting.
There is talk that Counihan will at least consider a change in his backroom team, one or possibly more of his selectors Jim Nolan, Terry O’Neill, Ger O’Sullivan and Peader Healy making way, with current under-21 manager John Cleary, who already works closely with Counihan, possibly joining up.
