Tennis: Janko Tipsarevic reached the first Grand Slam quarter-final of his career on Monday at the US Open. The bespectacled Serb, who had won just three matches in his previous seven visits to Flushing Meadows, beat Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5 6-7 7-5 6-2 to progress to the last eight.
Tipsarevic edged a tight first set but Ferrero managed to hit back in the second despite struggling with a foot problem which required plenty of strapping.
However, the former world number one was broken at 5-5 in the third, Tipsarevic duly serving out for a two-sets-to-one lead.
Tipsarevic, who cracked the world's top 20 for first time last month, dominated the fourth set to wrap up victory in three hours and 43 minutes on the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
He will next face either his top-seeded compatriot Novak Djokovic or Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov.
