Dublin City and manager John Toal will part mutually in light of the club adopting a new youth development policy in the hope of gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Toal, who was in charge of the eircom League First Division side for six months, managed his last game in their 2-1 win over Athlone Town on Sunday.

Chief Executive Ronan Seery paid tribute to Toal despite the club finishing midtable: "It has been a difficult season for everyone involved at Dublin City but John has carried out his duties in a thoroughly professional manner and I want to place on record my deep appreciation for those efforts".

Seery elaborated on his vision for the future: "Because of our change in policy it is my belief that a manager with a recognised background in youth affairs is needed so that new talent and personal can be identified to sustain the club's push for Premier grade football".

Toal confirmed both parties left by mutual consent by saying: "In difficult circumstances, I feel that I did a good job, I was only in the position six months and I was looking to taking the next step with Dublin City but I feel that the youth policy the club is about to embark upon is not the road I wish to take as manager".

When contacted by ireland.comthe club declined to comment on who they had in mind to replace Toal.
