New York - A US federal jury found the tobacco industry liable for deceptive business practices, and ordered them to pay $17.8 million to New York's largest health care organisation to help cover the costs of treating sick smokers.
The verdict represents the first time a third party succeeded in recovering health care costs from the tobacco industry.
