The Minister for Health and Children and health boards around the State should consider legal action against the tobacco industry, a solicitor representing 200 individuals in cases against tobacco companies has said.
Welcoming Mr Cowen's decision to impose a levy on tobacco products to finance medical care for those suffering from heart disease, Mr Peter McDonnell, said the Minister now had responsibility to challenge the industry in the courts to recoup the cost of smoking-related illness to the health services.
