Golf:David Toms fired a four-under-par 66 to establish a one-shot lead after the second round of the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island, Georgia. The American carded six birdies on the Seaside Course, including two in a row on the 15th and 16th holes, and two bogeys to move onto 10 under for the tournament, having opened with a 64.
Joe Durant also went round in 66 to sit a shot off the pace, picking up four birdies in a bogey-free round.
"David is one of my great friends out here, and he's certainly playing well," Durant, who was looking forward to a third-round pairing with Toms, said on the PGA Tour's official website.
"It helps your game when the other guy is swinging the club well."
Two more Americans, Heath Slocum and Rich Barcelo, were in a two-way tie for third on eight under.
Slocum also shot a 66 featuring four birdies, while Barcelo's 67 was rather more eventful as it contained six birdies and three bogeys. Barcelo birdied the 16th and 17th but slipped back again with a bogey at the last.
Brian Gay and Sweden's Mathias Gronberg were on seven under after a 65 and a 67 respectively.
Kevin Sutherland recorded the best round of the day, his 64 leaving him on six under, four shots off the lead and in a six-way tie for seventh.
First-round leader John Rollins was also on six under after he followed his opening-round 63 with a 71, picking up five bogeys.
Jeff Quinney, John Senden, James Nitties and Brian Stuard were the other four players on six under.
England's Greg Owen and Brian Davis both failed to make the cut.
Owen missed it by one shot after his 68 left him level par for the tournament, while Davis shot a 72 to finish on six over.
