A senior Shannon Airport aircraft engineer, who had recently been transferred to the Philippines, died at the weekend in a snorkelling accident.

Mr Malcolm Harrison (48), Gallows Hill, Cratloe, Co Clare, a quality assurance engineer with Shannon Aerospace, had taken a weekend break on an island off Manila with his wife, Martina, and 10-month-old daughter.

According to his sister-in-law, Ms Eavan Drysdale, he was snorkelling in shallow water when he seemed to go over a ledge out of his depth.

Mr Harrison, who was British, was seconded last August from Shannon Aerospace on a three-year contract to Lufthansa Technic in Manila.
