A file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions following an alleged assault at the Cavan Indoor International Horse Show on Friday.

Harry Marshall has denied allegations he hit fellow showjumper Ryan Crumley after a row at the show, but Crumley (23) and two others gave statements on the incident to Cavan gardaí yesterday. Marshall is due to give his own statement to gardaí this week.

The alleged incident occurred on Friday evening when a row broke out at Cavan Equestrian Centre between Marshall and Crumley, who is based at Cian O'Connor's Co Meath stables. Cavan gardaí have confirmed they were called to the centre after the argument.

"Harry Marshall hit me in the face and I'll take it to the highest court in the land if I have to," Crumley told The Irish Times. However, Marshall denies the incident occurred, claiming: "This is a smear campaign against me."

Earlier this year Marshall (53) was selected and then dropped from the Aga Khan Cup team at Dublin Horse Show. He subsequently refused to ride with Cian O'Connor, claiming the stripped Olympic gold medallist had interfered with the selection procedure.
