Cutting energy costs.
• Turn your heating down to 20 degrees Celsius. Lowering your thermostat by 1 degree reduces heating bills by 10 per cent.
• Unplug your phone charger. Equipment on standby uses 20 per cent of the energy used on full power.
• Buy CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps) instead of traditional light bulbs which use 20 per cent of the energy of ordinary bulbs and last up to 15 times longer.
• Switch off lights when you leave a room.
• Wait for a dishwasher to be full before switching it on, a half full dishwasher uses the same energy as a full one.
• Don't overfill your kettle, only boil as much water as you need.
• Check the tyre pressure on your car, a car with correctly inflated tyres is more fuel efficient.
• Avoid unnecessary electricity use between 5pm and 7pm to help reduce national CO2 emissions.
• Buy 'A' rated kitchen appliances. They cost less to run and over time will give large savings on electricity bills.
