A self-confessed UVF multiple murderer, Mr Denis McClean (50), who was sentenced to more than 400 years in jail, was freed yesterday as part of the Belfast Agreement.
Mr McClean, from Northland Street, Belfast, admitted 44 offences, including three murders, the manslaughter of a policewoman, six attempted murders, bomb-making, causing explosions, possessing guns and bombs, and UVF membership, when he appeared in Belfast Crown Court in May 1988. At his arrest, he was deputy commander of the UVF.
