Torrential rain resulted in flooding in parts of Northern Ireland early this morning, causing problems for many motorists.

More than 15mm of rain fell in just a half-hour leading to flooding in Banbridge and Newry in Co Down and Lurgan in County Armagh.

A spokeswoman for Met Eireann said this weather system was now over England and there was no severe weather predicted in place for the State.

She said there would be scattered showers this evening and it would remain cloudy in most areas.
