Tour de France: Spain's Moises Duenas Nevado tested positive for the blood boosting drug erythropoietin (EPO) after the fourth stage of the Tour de France, the French anti-doping agency (AFLD) confirmed today.
"We notified Moises Duenas Nevado that he had tested positive for EPO after the fourth stage this morning at 7am (Irish time)," AFLD president Pierre Bordry said.
The 27-year-old Barloworld rider had been pulled out of the by race by his team, Tour organisers added.
Duenas Nevado became the second Spanish rider to fail a doping test during this year's race after Liquigas rider Manuel Beltran was arrested by French police last week following an announcement that he had tested positive, also for EPO.
Police raided the hotel were Duenas Nevado's team were staying before the start of Wednesday's 11th stage, Bouygues-Telecom team manager Jean-Rene Bernaudeau.
"Around 50 police officers stormed into the hotel this morning," said Bernaudeau, whose team were also staying at the hotel. "I can say it was not for us", he added.
Australia's Cadel Evans was the race leader going into today's stage, a 167.5-km ride from Lannemezan to Foix.
