Cairo - The two men accused of killing nine Germans and one Egyptian in an attack on a tourist bus last month went on trial amid heavy security at a military court in Cairo yesterday, reports Siona Jenkins. The brothers, Mr Mahmoud Abu el-Ela and Mr Saber Farahat Abu el-Ela, were whisked through the city in a convoy led by an armoured personnel carrier and hustled through a ring of military police guarding the court complex.

Inside, charges of premeditated murder, attacking tourists and harming the Egyptian economy were read out. The defendants were not asked to plead. All face the death penalty if convicted.
