LONDON – Two ceremonial guards at the Tower of London have been sacked after an investigation upheld claims that they harassed the first woman to join their ranks at the 11th-century castle.
The unnamed yeoman warders, known as beefeaters, were suspended after the only woman to have become a warder in the Tower’s 500-year history accused them of harassment.
Moira Cameron, who joined in 2007, said her uniform was defaced, rude notes were left in her locker and her Wikipedia entry was interfered with, according to media reports.
“In light of the evidence that emerged, the investigation concluded that the allegations had foundation and that disciplinary action was appropriate,” the body that runs the tower said in a statement.
The investigation cleared a third member of staff at the popular tourist attraction in central London. – (Reuters)
