With dolls, board games, Legos, paints and magic sets stacked all the way up to the ceiling, Nimble Fingers toy shop has been captivating children for 50 years, leaving them with memories that last well into adulthood.
“It’s nicer than a large kind of megastore, nicer environment, and the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable,” said Ruth Forsyth, who has been coming to the shop since she was a child and who now brings her own three children. “It’s nice that there’s someplace that’s a little more personal.”
Celebrating their golden anniversary as well as all the families who have come through their doors, the family owned Irish toy shop, located in Stillorgan, plans to hold a series of free events on the last weekend of every month leading up to Christmas, beginning with this weekend’s Mini Family Festival.
The festival, which runs from tomorrow until Saturday, will include balloon making, face painting, story readings, tea parties and a magic show designed to bring out the kid in everyone.
Events, which are geared for ages 3 and up, will run from 2pm to 5pm tomorrow and Friday and from 11am to 4pm on Saturday.
Attendees can also expect to find some unique vintage toys on the shelves along with the creativity-centered toys that the shop has become known for.
“We love our customers. We’d do anything for them and we want them to come back here,” said founder Pat Staunton. “We want them to enjoy the experience. We notice, too, the kids come through the door here, and they all have a happy smile on their face. Adults do, as well.”
