Dublin Choral Foundation: Wedding memories from Ireland

Weird or wonderful, you must admit it's a novel idea: a collection of sacred pieces out of which to construct a wedding service in the best possible taste, with neither Mendelssohn's Wedding March nor Wagner's Bridal Chorus so much as peeping round a pillar. Here, instead, are suggestions ranging from Purcell's Trumpet Tune to Holst's I Vow to Thee, My Country via the marvellous old foot-stomping hymn Be Thou My Vision, the latter so stirring that mere marriage seems an inadequate excuse for an anthem which could well serve as the theme music for an attack on any available infidel. Ite O'Donovan and The Lassus Scholars bring their usual impeccable musicality to bear on both the traditional hymns and fancier choral items, in particular a meltingly lovely Ubi Caritas - part of the Holy Thursday liturgy as arranged by Maurice Durufle in 1960.
