When they take traditional Irish music out on the road, Music Network often cough up some seriously left-field mixtures of instruments. This is partly, because the system is chaotically organised around little revolutionary cells of quality musicians - mostly active out in the West of Ireland. The latest cohort is led by Westport-born harper, Laoise Kelly. Kelly's music is a highstrung, hushed-down, exquisite mixture of settings of big Gaelic tunes like O'Carolan's Farewell, and self-arranged dance tunes. She performs with Mirella Murray (accordion), Jarlath McTiernan (pipes) and Flookman Jonjo Kelly's bodhran. Don't miss 'em.
