Special traffic arrangements have been put in place to ease congestion and delays for those travelling to and from the World Golf Championship in Mount Juliet, Co Kilkenny.

Gardaí say there are three main entrances to the estate for the public, in addition to a special entrance for golfers and those working at the tournament.

They say traffic from Dublin should turn right at Thomastown and travel out the Bennettsbridge to Kilkenny Road.

After about two miles, motorists should turn left at Killarney and travel for a further mile before coming to the Killarney gate entrance.

Traffic from Waterford should travel to Stoneyford on the Waterford to Kilkenny Road, turn right and travel for about 1½ miles before coming to the Ballylinch entrance.

Meanwhile traffic from Wexford should, after arriving in Thomastown's Market Street, turn in to the Thomastown gate entrance. All staff at the course, media and golfers will use a separate entrance on the Oldtown Road.

It can be reached by turning right about two miles from Thomastown just after Jerpoint Abbey. They will travel along that road for about 1½ miles before coming to the service entrance.

A Garda spokesman said all entrances would be signposted and gardaí would be on duty to direct traffic.
