Friday traffic is busy in towns and cities this evening as the traditional post-Christmas holiday remission from gridlock comes to a close.

In Cork, motorists have been warned to watch for a new traffic layout on the lanes east of the Kinsale Road roundabout. And until Monday January 23 rd, the R617 in Blarney Village will be closed between the Blarney Park Hotel and Supervalu.

In Dublin, there has been a four-car crash on the M50 southbound between the Finglas (N2) exit and the Blanchardstown (N3) exit and traffic in the area is slow. Cork Street in the south inner city is closed between Ardee Street and Marrowbone Lane due to a fire and gardai are directing traffic away from the area, according to AA Roadwatch.

Wellington Road from the Gough Road roundabout to Islandbridge Gate in Phoenix Park is closed to all vehicular traffic today to facilitate roadworks.

In Limerick, the LP1112 route at Annacotty village will be closed until Wednesday March 1 stto facilitate road improvement works. Diversions will be signposted.

Dublin Bus advises customers that most fares have increased by five cent this week and have asked people to have the correct change ready. Fares have also increased by an average of 3.8 per cent on mainline rail and Dart services.

In ferry travel, Stena Line advises that due to the annual refit of the HSS Sten Explorer there will be no service from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead after the 16.05 service today.
