A search-and-rescue team which operates on the River Foyle was deployed Derry city centre becasuse of flooding while in Co Antrim a bungalow roof burst into flames when it was hit by lightning.

Fire crews swiftly put out the blaze at Brackley Heights in the village of Cullybackey.

Parts of Derry city where under a foot of water today as heavy thunderstorms often left motorists trapped in their cars.

Manhole covers in Derry were also blown off as water levels continued to rise leading to one crash.

Although no injuries were reported, police urged parents to keep children away from the potential hazards.

A number of roads this evening are still closed due to flooding which has affected as many eight roads.
