Passengers using Dublin airport today were warned to expect traffic congestion as some 30,000 people attend a nearby cemetery mass.

Road restrictions and diversions will be put in place around Dardistown Cemetery from 1pm to 7pm, affecting motorists on Collinstown Lane and the Old Airport Road.

Extra gardaí will be on duty around and in the airport to ensure traffic moves as smoothly as possible. Stewards will also be on hand to regulate car parking in fields beside the graveyard.

Anyone flying during the day has been advised to travel to the airport via the M1 motorway.

Public transport will run as normal, and the long-term car park for travellers will be open.

A Garda spokesman said it is estimated that up to 30,000 people could attend the service, an annual event.

“People travelling to Dublin Airport should give themselves extra time to get to the airport and take account of the traffic diversions in place,” he said. “People travelling to the mass are urged to use public transport where possible.”
