A train crash was staged in Maynooth railway station this morning by the Government's Emergency Planning task force.

A train crash was staged in Maynooth railway station this morning by the Government's Emergency Planning task force.

'Operation Bondbridge', took place in Maynooth Railway Station this morning and involved more than 150 emergency services personnel.

The exercise, which was intended to test the test the response of the emergency services to a crisis situation, involved the simulated derailment of a passenger train resulting in a large number of casualties with injuries ranging from fatal to minor.

A second exercise is planned for October 19th in Sligo and will take the form of multi-vehicle crash between a bus, oil tanker and a number of cars.

These exercises were due to occur in late May but were postponed following the Navan bus tragedy.
