Up to 50 passengers on the Dublin to Belfast Enterprise train had to spend more than three extra hours on board after it broke down less than 100 yards from Belfast city station on Wednesday night.
The last cross-Border service of the day was due to arrive at the city's Central Station at 10.30 p.m. when a fault developed and the train came to a halt 100 yards short of the platform. Safety regulations prevented passengers from leaving the train. They eventually arrived at Central Station at 2 a.m. yesterday after a replacement engine was found.
The North's train and bus company, Translink, yesterday offered passengers £100 compensation and a free weekend in Dublin.
