The Law Society is to start a new training course for solicitors in Cork.
To operate in collaboration with UCC, the facility is expected to open later this year and will allow people from Munster to train without having to travel to Dublin.
President of the Law Society Michael Irvine said a premises had been identified and works were being carried out.
The new facility was needed in light of greatly increased demand, and it was expected that up to 150 trainee solicitors will opt to study in Cork from November. Mr Irvine said the demand for solicitors' training has increased by 83 per cent over the past three years, and this showed no sign of abating.
