A passing bus driver jumped into a stream to pull a trapped woman from her car after it left the road and overturned in Co Clare yesterday afternoon.

The single vehicle incident happened shortly before 4pm near Kilnamona on the N85 Ennis to Ennistymon road. The woman in her 60s lost control of her car, which crashed down a three-metre (10ft) embankment and overturned on to its roof.

The water in the stream was about 0.6m (2ft) deep and the car began to fill with water. The bus driver managed to free the woman from the vehicle. She was treated at the scene before being removed to hospital by ambulance. Her condition was said to be not serious.
