Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has said it had nothing to do with a Travellers' decision to leave a site adjacent to Booterstown Marsh in south Co Dublin.

The site, located part in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's administrative area of south Co Dublin and part in the Dublin Corporation area, was recently the subject of a planning application for an apartment development which was withdrawn.

The Travellers moved on to the site early this year and local residents protested to Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council that their presence was a danger to the bird marsh and an eyesore. However, the numbers of travellers on the site dwindled over the past 10 days and yesterday Mr Liam Byrne, assistant Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown county manager, said there was only one caravan left.
