Trial date set for 11 men on dogfight charges

A trial date has been set for 11 men charged over an illegal dogfight in Co Kildare.

A trial date has been set for 11 men charged over an illegal dogfight in Co Kildare.

The charges relate to an alleged dogfight in Brockagh, Robertstown, Co. Kildare, in October 2003. The men have all been charged under the Cruelty to Animals Act 1911.

They are: Anthony Burke, Corstown, Oldcastle, Co Meath; Richard Bernard, Dark Road, Castletown, Co Carlow; Troy Jordan, Blackthorn Cottage, River Road, Allenwood, Co Kildare; James Ferris, Allenwood South, Co Kildare; Richard Somerville, 26, Dunard Drive, Navan Road, Cabra; Karl Breen, 5, Nangor Crescent, Clondalkin; John Moody, 35, Coolamber Crescent, Templeogue; Thomas Codd, 18, Cloonmore Crescent, Tallaght; David Deegan, 61, Maplewood Pk, Springfield, Tallaght; Michael Quinn, 8, Slieve Bloom Road, Drimnagh; and Joseph Blake, 4, Loreto Avenue, Rathfarnham.

The men, who are all free on bail on their own bond of €500, are expected to plead not guilty.

A total of 17 witnesses are expected to be called in the trial, which is due to start in Naas Circuit Court on July 5th.
