The trial of Republic of Ireland footballer Mark Kennedy, who is charged with failing to provide a breath specimen, is due to resume in Britain today.
Mr Kennedy (25) denied the charge when he appeared before magistrates sitting at Northwich, Cheshire, last month. He pleaded guilty to driving his car without due care and attention, a charge he had previously denied.
Charges of failing to stop for a police officer and driving while unfit through drink were dismissed by the court after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
Magistrates were told the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger was pulled over by police in the early hours of Sunday, September 9th, 2001, close to his home in Cheshire.
The court was told the footballer, of Oakwood House, Beechfield Road, Alderley Edge, was "obstructive" when taken to Wilmslow Police Station.
Giving evidence, the former Liverpool and Manchester City player said he was waiting for advice from his solicitor before providing a breath specimen.
