Tributes were paid yesterday at the funeral of the Cork local historian and author, Mr Sean Beecher, who died at Cork University Hospital on December 29th, aged 61.

Best known for his Dictionary of Cork Slang, Mr Beecher also wrote a history of St Finbarr's Hurling and Football Club.

The former Labour TD, Mr Toddy O'Sullivan, described Mr Beecher as a great friend who had loved the Irish language.

A local government official with Cork County Council, Mr Beecher had moved to Inis Mor on the Aran Islands and will buried there later this week. He is survived by his wife, Sheila.
