Sinn Fein's Mr Gerry Adams is meeting the Ulster Unionist's Mr David Trimble this afternoon in a bid to repair the strained relationship between the two parties in the peace process.
Mr Adams, who will leave Belfast tomorrow for a tour of the United States and Canada, was planning to put a proposal that members of both parties should meet at various levels to address suspicions generated during the peace process.
Sinn Fein sources revealed: "Gerry intends to put to David a proposal that the Ulster Unionists and ourselves should organise meetings at all levels.
"That means party-to-party meetings between councillors, between MPs, between Assembly members.
"We recognise that there are concerns within unionism about republicans and what we are trying to do.
"Similarly, we know that from a nationalist and republican perspective there are concerns about unionism's commitment to the Good Friday Agreement and the working of the institutions within that Agreement. They will need to help build up nationalist confidence too."
