Ulster Unionist leader Mr David Trimble has reportedly met the loyalist commission comprising representatives of the three main loyalist paramilitary groups.

According to a BBC report, the Northern Ireland First Minister was joined at the day-long commission meeting yesterday by a large number of church and community representatives.

It is understood Mr Trimble urged members of the Ulster Volunteer Force, Red Hand Commando and the Ulster Defence Association to follow the IRA's example by starting to decommission.

The commission talks also included issues such as social deprivation and loyalist alienation.

The commission was established to give political analysis to the paramilitary groups.

The Northern Ireland Secretary Dr John Reid met with commission representatives last month. Dr Reid had declared the UDA and Loyalist Volunteer Force's ceasefires broken following attacks in north Belfast last year.
