Vienna - Four bodies were found in a burned-out Austrian road tunnel yesterday, bringing the confirmed death toll from a weekend blaze to five, but two more bodies were still being sought.
Salzburg provincial governor Mr Franz Schausberger said a total of five bodies had been found and 49 people had been injured in a fire after a collision in the Tauern tunnel on Saturday involving a lorry loaded with paint. He said rescue workers
expected to find two more bodies amid the burned-out wreckage of cars and trucks.
A 27-year-old German was confirmed dead on Saturday but the identity of the other victims was not known. An Austrian, a Greek and two Bosnians were earlier said to be missing.
A huge blaze erupted in the 6.4-km tunnel, south-east of Salzburg, on Saturday morning after the pile-up involving several vehicles.
