Ankara - Turkey's military chief-of-staff, Gen Huseyin Kivrikoglu, has warned of possible confrontation with Greece following reports that Greek officials are making disputed Aegean islets available for housing projects.
Turkish newspapers said a local Greek official had plans to allow housing projects on Platia, a rocky islet close to Imia which brought Turkey and Greece to the brink of war three years ago.
Earlier the Prime Minister, Mr Bulent Ecevit, said Turkey would not allow the islet to be opened to housing. According to the Turkish press, a house has been built on Platia for a Greek couple, due to get married today, after they leased the islet for 20 years.
