A Turkish military aircraft carrying 37 people has crashed in southeastern Turkey killing all aboard, the military and police have said.

Turkey's armed forces General Staff said in a statement the plane was flying from the southeastern city of Diyarbakir to Ankara carrying six crew and 31 passengers, all military personnel.

There was no immediate indication on the cause of the crash, which occurred in an open area of rolling hills. It was the worst air disaster in Turkey since 1994 when 57 people died in a Turkish Airlines crash.

"There are no survivors, everyone was killed," a spokesman for the police in the nearby city of Malatya told Reuters.
