Ankara - Turkish deputies voted yesterday to reject a move to send former prime minister and junior government coalition partner, Mr Mesut Yilmaz, to the Supreme Court to face accusations of abuse of office. The vote, 216 in favour of Mr Yilmaz to 172 against, averts any immediate danger of a government crisis. But an internal row over the allegations has undermined trust in Mr Bulent Ecevit's coalition and shaken the confidence of markets in its ability to implement IMF-backed reforms. Parliament will vote on a second abuse of office charge against Mr Yilmaz next week. He denies any wrongdoing in a land deal or in the sale of mobile telephone licences.
