THE right of television viewers to free access to major events and sporting occasions has been preserved under a new directive passed by the European Parliament yesterday.
The "television without frontiers" directive prevents sporting events from being shown exclusively on pay-per-view or subscription channels.
The agreement on the directive after three years of debate was hailed by the Socialist group.
