TV 3 has issued an "unreserved apology" to the Bishop of Cloyne, Dr John Magee for a report which was aired concerning an employment appeals tribunal case brought by a former diocesan worker last week.

The case was settled without a hearing after Mr Damian Jones withdrew his claim for constructive dismissal.

The television station's coverage of the case prompted Bishop Magee to issue a letter which was read at all Masses in the dioceses at the weekend in which he denied as completely without foundation the report carried by the TV station. He said the report had caused deep hurt and grave concern and "in order to uphold the truth in this matter and defend the well-being of the diocese, I have placed the entire issue in the hands of the diocesan solicitors".

TV3 said last night it was "satisfied there is no basis or truth whatsoever in the allegations". "We wish to offer an unreserved apology to the Bishop and the Diocese of Cloyne".
